The Lone Star Wind Power Plant in Shackelford and Callahan Counties in Texas was officially opened by Horizon Wind Energy in June 2008, with an installed generating capacity of 400 MW. The site's 200 Gamesa 2 MW wind turbines produce enough electricity for at least 120,000 homes, with environmental benefits claimed to be equivalent to taking about 90,000 cars off of the road.
The Lone Star Wind Power Plant II In Shackelford and Callahan Counties, the second phase of Lone Star Wind Farm has an installed capacity of 200 MW - enough to power over 60,000 Texas homes with clean energy each year. Lone Star II, which began commercial operation in May 2008, consists of 100 Gamesa G87 2.0 MW turbines. J. Aron, the commodities division of Goldman Sachs, purchases the clean, renewable energy.
